I thought it might be time to do some shameless self promotion on the War On Music blog.
Rick Baverstock has been good enough to permit me to do a radio show for the past year called the On-Slot. The On-Slot was originally a ska and reggae show on CKUW, but that was only because CKUW had punk shows, and metal shows on the station. It was really a good thing for me, as I was quite ignorant to great ska, and the ska scene throughout Canada.
The On-Slot is now a radio show dedicated to fast music. Fast is what I like, and it doesn’t have to be a hardcore band playing with reckless abandon, so of my favorite tunes are the jig style tunes you here from the likes of the Pogues, or Flogging Molly.
The On-Slot features The Cover Up sponsored by War On Music. This is where I play an original version of a song, and then a punk or metal cover of the same tune. It is usually pretty cool, but occasionally the two versions are too similar, and it ends up sounding lame. I’ve learned from that, and always listen to the tunes before I play them on 92.9 KICK FM.
If I am able I try to grant any request, and so far I have not been let down. Get those request ready and call 780-5425 and give me a run for my money.
