Wow this blog has been a monumental disappointment. Not only are there only three followers, I myself have let it down, but now that there is one month left until the IPP is finished I am making a push to maybe get another follower, and hope that I might somehow get over 1,000 views. Right now I average about one and a half views per day, so that will be quite the feat, but maybe if I push it to the limit, walk along the razor’s, while making sure that I don’t look down, or I might lose it. Oh shoot I got caught up in the Scarface soundtrack there.
This is my point, the shows have been great, and the last two are happening on February 10 - the Valentine’s Bop with Quagmire, the Afterlife, and the Xanad00ds and February 25 - Thrashers, Acid Scar, and Jeremy Williamez. The commercials are coming together, and I hope to have the last two finished by the end of the week. The Twitter has been great, especially with some of he cool shout out I’ve gotten with @waronmusic - Oderus Urungus for one. The print ads haven’t come together that quickly, but the one for the first show with Tom Asselin, and Jaremy Ediger on it was pretty funny, and that was what I was going for.
So hey, why not for the sake of possibly finding a new band that you like, follow this blog, and maybe even check it out once in a while. I promise it will be updated often. That way at least one month of this blog will be taken to the next level. I guess that us the fourth floor or something.
Follow us on Twitter @waronmusic, the website www.waronmusic.com, or the Facebook page.
And listen to the On-Slot Wednesday night 6-7PM on 92.9 KICK-FM.

YouTube is My Favourite Website
I have got to give a big ups to YouTube in this blog entry. I have been doing this blog for almost a year, and although it hasn’t really caught on, I have had some great videos on here, and many of those have come from YouTube.
I think my favourite thing about YouTube is that you can preview bands and songs, pretty much any band or song, and find out if that music is for you. Some of the best finds on YouTube for me have been JFA, Bones Brigade, and Samhain.
YouTube is also great for seeing rear live footage or reliving shows that you have been at. Some of my favourite footage comes from the Gwar, Sick Of It All, and of course the Asian Man Records 15th Anniversary Festival. Man that was the best.
You can even see local shows such as an old Death By Stereo show in Winnipeg, or Jeremy Williamez Bean Boggler video which isn’t music, but it is worth the watch. Check out the Viva Las Moustache video Jaremy Ediger and I made for our broadcast journalism course at Red River College.
These are just the music reasons that you should watch You Tube a little more often. I watched most of the Twilight Zones on there, not to mention the Rocko’s Modern Life, and even some old school YTV Squawk Box. Heck I even found a “stopping on ice” sound effect for a piece I cut for TSN 1290 about the ice at MTS Centre.
YouTube, it’s not just stupid videos of people playing video games and playing crappy covers of songs anymore.
Didn't know that Ilike GG Allin until I listened to this

Help 92.9 KICK FM, Somehow
I got some horrible news last night about 92.9 KICK FM. Apparently there is trouble from the CRTC, because of some of the content that appeared on one of the shows.
I'm not here to say whether this is right or wrong, because although I know a lot about the regulations of the Canadian airwaves, i am not an expert, and with the way things have escalated I don't want to accuse any innocent parties concerning their involvement.
I do think that the word bunk describes this situation pretty well for most of the students at Red River College. Especially those that are going into second year next term. The students all have good intentions, even those that have broken the rules, and I think that it is pretty low that whoever did make these complaints took it to the level that has KICK FM on the verge of being not renewing their license. Now a small group of people from Red River have to feel that it was them alone that caused the station to come under scrutiny.
I'm not sure if there is anything that can be done now to help future students get the station back to where it was before my class got a hold of but I would suggest email the CRTC, the station itself, and maybe the heads that run the station above station manager Rick Baverstock.
Blame who you want. I have heard rumors of who is involved and if they are accurate I have been on both sides of this argument. My conclusion is that two wrongs don't make a right in this situation, and it is wrong to victimize people that aren't the target of frustration even if someone has treated you shabbily in the past. Take it up with them personally, don't target students.
In closing I just wanted to write that the Give and Go Hockey Show is on Wednesdays at 5PM, followed by the On-Slot at 6PM.
Keep on listening, and hopefully something positive happens in the end.

Saturday February 25, 2012 - 10 PM at the Cavern
It has happened, the Thrashers show is back on, hopefully with my friend Joel’s band Acid Scar will also be on the bill. Jeremy Williamez may also be on the bill, so if hilarious stuff is your bag get in on this show.
This is not the usual type of show I put on, but with this line up it maybe the most interesting. All these bands are fast paced, but more rock than they are punk or metal.
The Thrashers are a great surf band that is knowing for playing great music while having a great time.
Acid Scar is an experimental rock band that does have some harder influences, but I might compare them more to a Mr. Bungle style band, where the you don’t know whether you are at a rock show, or a carnival, or even a freak show.
Jeremy Williamez is a comic musician wordsmithin’ genius. If you have never caught his act before get down to the Cavern for this one, because it is always hilarious. If you have never seen the bean boggler you are in for a treat with this blog. Check out this video. Check out this show.

The Rest of the List - 8-1 of the best pick-ups for 2011
I don't have Internet or cable at my new place, becuase I want to feel like a big man and not need television, but I do miss TSN. My Prolines have sucked lately.
8. V/A - God Save The Queers
The Queers are one of my favourite punk bands of all time, so it goes to figure a great tribute album would have to be one of the top used pick ups of my 2011. This disc is even more special for me because I grabbed it at the Asian Man 15th Anniversary Festival the day that I saw the Queers play for the first time.
It has excellent contibutions from the Dwarves (messed up recording), Screeching Weasel, and the New Bomb Turks. This album also has a lot of lesser known bands that do a great job of covering the Queers, and they hit all the right tunes.
7. English Dogs - Invasion of the Porky Men
I have written before about certain record labels being able to tip a person off as to whether or not a band is worth listening to, and Captain Oi! is one label I can always trust for a good album. In October I had the good fortune of coming across the English Dogs Invasion of the Porky Men, which is some classic British punk. The guitar and bass are hard and driving the vocals are nice and gritty, just in case you have had too much
The English Dogs do a good job with the time changes. Your Counrty may be the best example of that, and this too is a good ol’ punk military song. My favourite track on the album is definitely Left Me For Dead. This tune is written almost anthem style with the repetitive “Leave me be Leave me be,” into the “you left me for dead chant. It’s a great tune, an d here is a little sample.
This pick would have been better, but Invasion of the Porky Men is a terrible song that’s only redeeming quality is the quite British “porky” chant that turns up throughout.
6. GBH - Complete Vinyl
Not much to say about this collection. It is some great British Hardcore, and it even translates some American skate style hardcore as well. If you are into driving guitars, and lyrics that aren’t really deep, but good for an adrenaline filled romp on some sort of board, or even at work.
5. Motorhead - All The Aces
I had been looking for a Motorhead disc that had Orgasmatron on it, and it was an exhausting search that stretched into the United States. But on faithful afternoon this summer I happened upon All The Aces, and it blew my mind. This disc goes past the usual songs that you get on Motorhead comps, to the gritty, harder songs like We Are The Road Crew, and still makes sure to keep the classics like Ace of Spades, Bomber, and No Class.
Double CD, double the fun.
4. Farrell Bros. - Dead End Boys
The psycho Billy pride of Selkirk Manitoba brings, in my opinion, their best songs ever in this 13 track album. The sound is fast, gritty, and swings the way good rock n’ roll should.
There are fast songs like R.E.B.E.L., and some of the lighter songs really hit the mark for me. A song like Let’s Face It is one of those tunes that I hear and I cannot believe that this band is not bigger. This tune has everything: great instrumentals, great raspy vocals, and song righting that is perfect for every different style song they play.
I also picking up rumble at the Opry earlier this year, and it, from early listening, seems like a more traditional rockabilly album. I’m pretty excited to get that listened to a little more.
3. Rise Above - Black Flag Tribute
This is an unbelievable album. What else is there to say other than Black Flag fans will love this album, and likely be shocked by how hardcore the likes of Hank III, and Dean Ween.
All the best Black Flag songs, and unlike the Ramones tribute, which I also grabbed used this year, the songs are true to the essence of Black Flag. The Romanoes tribute has to many songs that only sound only like the artist (Marilyn Manson), and ruin great songs like Beat on the Brat (Marilyn Manson).
2. The Beatles - Rubber Soul
Most of this list comes from alternative styles of music, but this is the list of my top ten used pick ups for 2011, and this Beatles album for me is the tops (for Beatles used pick ups of 2011)
Songs like Norwegian Wood are so unique, and those tracks are surrounded by classic - good - pop tunes that are catchy because they are well written, not repetitive and possibly containing mind control technology. You Won’t See Me, it seems like a lame concept, but it is done so well that you just want to
groove to it.
The Word, oh man, this album was at 8 but it has moved up thanks to Think For Yourself - heck is that a hella tune.
I also saw the White Album at a competitors store, but it was too expensive for even a double CD, which will never happen at War On Music where a used CD is always dirt cheap. I have grabbed some great deals for 99 cents.
1. Poison Idea - Pajama Party
It’s a cover album, and that maybe should drop it a little, but when a band you really like does a good job of covering some great tunes it can make quite the great album.
One thing that I thought put this album above and beyond was the range of the music covered.
MC 5 is in there and Motorhead, kinda the usual suspects right? Well how do you like a little a little Elvis Jail House Rock with lyrics that sound a lot more like Oz, and not the "fun" jail that Elvis covered in the past.
It is pretty much a best of as far as I can tell, but there aer covers, and other stuff. Hey, if you know what this thing is all about let me know, becuase I am still confused.

So Good it is Nasty - Dag Nasty
Here is the next installment of my top used pick-ups of 2011
9. Dag Nasty - Can I Say?
What Can I Say? About this album. Well let me say this first of all - I know that some people like my friend John McCown who shreds for the Afterlife ( see them Feb 10 at the Cavern) doesn’t appreciate their stylings because he says that they are a Minor Threat knock off. Granted they have a hint of Minor Threat, but for myself it is different enough that that similarity adds to the enjoyment for me.
Dag Nasty is like Minor Threat light, not that it is watered down, but it is a more mainstream sound, so militant punks may think it is watered down. I’m just trying to give the straight goods on my favourite used albums this year.
My favourite tunes on this disc are What Next?, Never Go Back, and Justification.
The review may not be the most complimentary, but it is a unique sound, and great, as much as it occasionally has Minor Threat influence.

Top Ten Used Pick Ups Of 2011 - ##10
10. The Casualties - Made In N.Y.C.
Before grabbing this disc early in 2011 I hadn’t been listening to the Casualties very much for the last couple of years as I had been going on more of a vocal trip the last couple years. Made In N.Y.C. however got me back in to this gritty New York street punk, and made sure that I was ready for the cache of Casualties albums that I found through the summer.
The Casualties are at their best live, and that comes through clearly with most of the tracks on this disc.
Here is a little taste. This track is not on Made In N.Y.C. I just think it is really cool.
