Hosting a show is a little more difficult that I had originally expected, but all hope is not lost, just a little time. Hey I am learning which is the main thing, right?
Anyway my first tip to anyone promoting thier first show is to get the venue first. This may be shows 101 but bands, especially local ones don't know a lot of the tie if they will be together in a month, let alone if they are going to be available to play a show that doesn't have a locked location time, or date. Get those and from what I here the bands will come. It is like Field of Dreams, on the dreams at these clubs probably aren't acceptable in mainstream society.
Maybe if you are a judge you get into that stuff. I don't know. I must admit though getting older, and less in touch with the local music scene has made getting commitments from bands more difficult, heck even responses. The solution, of course is to go see more shows. I'm getting there, but shows duirng the summer are so few and far between I am lucky I have good friends and family helping me out, and if everything works out this should be the show I promote in a month, with thanks going already to Brad from Quagmire for all the help he has given me.
Quagmire, Pinkslips, the Afterlife, and if I am lucky the Terribles. Hopefully at the Standard.
Wish me luck, and shoot me some tips if you.
